About the event

This is a very special tour following the crop of Wheat one of the biggest crops in the UK from Farm - Mill- Fork.

This tour is of two halves, we spend the morning at award winning Nonnington Farm. These guys are pioneers of regenerative and sustainable farming methods as well as encouraging small farming businesses to set up on their farm. We will start the day with a tour of Nonnington Farm with the farm owner and being August will be on the farm right in the middle of harvest this means combining!

Guests will have the opportunity to go for a ride in the combine harvester or in a state of the art tractor and have a ride up grain carting. We will learn all about growing, harvesting and storing cereal crops as well as heritage wheat and various varieties of arable crops. Nonnington Farm also has a flour mill on site which is very rare very special, the mill their own and other growers wheat into flour. Emma the farmer is very kindly going to allow our group to mill our own flour from the wheat that we have just watched being harvested and you can take a bag home with you!

Lunch time is a team affair, Nonnington Farm let out small parcels of land support growing young farmers two of which will be preparing a truly farm to fork lunch for us alfresco on the farm.

Oink and Udder are first generation farmers raising rare breed high welfare animals with the environment paramount to their decision making, the quality of their meat is impeccable, you will get to see for yourself with their BBQ. Jack Scott runs a spray free market garden on site who will we also visit on our tour as well as using his produce in this wonderful farm lunch to put together some magnificent salads and sides. All farmers and growers involved in the morning tour and lunch will be joining us for the lunch and be giving talks about the how’s, what’s, whys and answer any questions while we dig into this farm to fork feast.

After lunch we will hop back into the minibus and head over to the wonderful Dockers Bakery (and Brewery)!

Here we will have a tour of the bakery and learn all about what they do, looking at each section of the bakery discussing the processes that happens there so that by the time we are finished we have given an overview of the bread making process from start to finish. Dockers Bakery use Nonnington Flour Mill to produce flour for their bread and bake with lots of varieties and blends of wheat, the head baker will explain why this is so important to the final product. After a tour we will sit down for a bread and beer tasting getting to sample the final products of the arable harvest.

There would also be bread/pastries/beer available for purchase, as well as the option to pre order a meat box from Oink and Udder, a veg box from Jack Scott or Flour from Nonnington Farm. Once tasting is concluded we will hop back in the minibus and return to our pick off/drop off point.
