June - Asparagus Cherries Flowers

What a marvellous combination I do say so myself, June is a busy time of year across the farming industry harvest calendar so let's go and find out what is going on across East Kent.

Meet 9am Brogdale Farm - you can park you cars here. Or we can pick you up from Faversham train station.

We start this tour going to visit Nicola at Sevenscores Asparagus farm to catch the morning asparagus harvest. We will venture out into the asparagus field and learn about how it is grown, looked after and finally harvested by hand. Asparagus has a very short season and a high reliance on manual labour to ensure the up most quality. Once harvested we will follow the asparagus from the field to the pack house and watch how it is then washed, graded into size and distributed. Come loaded with questions to ask farmer Nicola as it's not often you get access to a farm like this!

You will all get a bunch of asparagus to take home from Sevenscores too.

Next stop Mount Ephraim Cherry Orchards! Where we will go and check out the magnificent cherry orchards, learn all about the trees and the harvesting process. Mount Ephraim also has wonderful gardens we will take a short tour of on this stop.

We will take a box of beautiful cherries with us to add to our lunch spread which we will find just down the road...

Lunch time!

The afternoon will be spent at Denstroude Flower Farm and Rosewood Acres farm. A farm with regenerative and sustainable practices embedded in it's DNA. Here we will enjoy a stunning alfresco lunch featuring home grown produce turned into stunning salads and local artisan producers food and drink pilled high in a high end farm style pic nic perfect for the weather!

After lunch Farmers Sam and Lilly of Rosewood Acres will take you on a tour of the farm to visit the Veg Patch, PYO berry gardens and visit the flocks of high welfare organic chickens half are for meat half for eggs and sold in top quality farm shops across East Kent.

The final activity of the day will be walking across to Denstroude Flower Farm which is a stunning picturesque garden loaded with cut flower varieties. Here you will  meet farmer Pippy and Beckie who can answer all of your flower growing questions then grab bucket and some secateurs and pick your own bunch of home grown flowers. Farmer Pip and Becky will then help you wrap it up like they had just arrived from a florist!
